Opinion: Why single-payer would improve California health care

The Mercury News. Dr. James G. Kahn. April 2, 2019

In this op-ed, Dr. James G. Kahn, professor emeritus, UC San Francisco, and former president of Physicians for a National Health Program-California, outlines the high points of a single-payer system.

He asserts that single payer is

…benevolent because it truly solves the problems of uninsurance and underinsurance, fulfilling the human right of access to health care. Smart because it saves money – using clever and proven methods to efficiently translate our financial commitments to desired health care.

HEAL California’s Op-Ed project aims to elevate the voices of those seeking a healthcare system that works for everyone.
