Medicare-for-All advocates in San Francisco are preparing to promote their support of H.R. 1384, the Medicare for All Act of 2019 (Rep. Pramila Jayapal), at two upcoming appearances by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Activists will gather at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29 in front of the Marines’ Memorial Theatre, 609 Sutter St., where Speaker Pelosi is scheduled to address The Commonwealth Club from noon to 1 pm. Single Payer NOW is coordinating the rally. (May 29 Facebook event page here)
Then, at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 1, Pelosi is scheduled to deliver a major speech about reproductive rights to the Women’s Caucus of the California Democratic Convention.
Activists plan to stage a 7 a.m. rally in front of the Moscone Center, 747 Howard St., holding signs in support of Medicare for All and chanting. (June 1 Facebook event page here)
Jeanne Crawford, co-chair of the San Francisco Berniecrats Healthcare Committee, is helping to coordinate that effort.
“The banners and signs would remind folks that we want Speaker Pelosi to not only support the bill but use her great skill to usher it through the proper committees,” Crawford said.
San Francisco Democratic Socialists of America‘s healthcare group is also planning to join the rally, she said. Other Medicare-for-All groups from around the state have also been invited.
Dr. Ana Malinow, a pediatrician and member of Physicians for a National Health Program, said these events are a chance to raise women’s voices on these critical issues.
“(Pelosi) needs to hear from constituents, particularly women, as to the importance of passing a (Medicare-for-All) bill that will include reproductive rights,” Malinow said.

So important that Pelosi get on board and fully support Single-payer health care. HR 1384. ACA is not health care when tens of millions citizens cannot afford it. ACA and thing associated with healthcare & insurance is pure robbery.
