President Trump will say or do anything in order to help Republicans, regardless of the truth and regardless of who it will hurt.
His latest is a noxious Op-Ed in the USA Today that focuses on healthcare, Medicare for All and his policies:
“As a candidate, I promised that we would protect coverage for patients with pre-existing conditions and create new health care insurance options that would lower premiums. I have kept that promise, and we are now seeing health insurance premiums coming down.
I also made a solemn promise to our great seniors to protect Medicare. That is why I am fighting so hard against the Democrats’ plan that would eviscerate Medicare. Democrats have already harmed seniors by slashing Medicare by more than $800 billion over 10 years to pay for Obamacare. Likewise, Democrats would gut Medicare with their planned government takeover of American health care.”
We have written extensively on how Trump and the GOP are eviscerating our healthcare, ending pre-existing conditions protections and have always said their holy grail is to privatize Medicare. For this Op-Ed, the Washington Post fact checks some of the whoppers.
The fundamental one misrepresents Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All plan. In truth, it expands Medicare to cover every resident in the country, and current Medicare recipients would be getting improved benefits: no more deductibles, limited copays, and provided coverage for dental and vision care, as well as hearing aids. A House single-payer bill calls for covering long-term care.
