Newsom’s Ambitious Health Care Agenda Crumbles In A ‘Radically Changed’ World

Actually 2020 is turning out to be a “big health care year for California,” but not in the way Governor Newsom imagined it would. His plans included bringing the state closer to universal healthcare by expanding Medi-Cal and reducing the cost of pharmaceuticals by manufacturing them ourselves. Now coronavirus response and recovery will command the resources Newsom planned to dedicate to strengthening California’s healthcare infrastructure. Besides sticking more bandaids on the problem, there is another solution: Complete transformation of our healthcare system by eliminating the corporate middlemen and establishing a state-based Medicare for All system in California. — The HEAL Team
