Congress has apparently normalized the practice of loading up bills with riders, which are provisions that have little or no connection to the stated purpose of the bill. Often these provisions have far-reaching consequences, about which the American people aren’t informed. And so it is with the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package. For example, the stimulus package cancelled scheduled 2% cuts to Medicare fees – cuts which would help financially stabilize the program. Long after the pandemic has passed, Americans will hear the familiar refrain that Medicare – a successful guaranteed public health insurance program for seniors – is going broke and needs to be privatized.   — The HEAL Team
