Congress Said COVID-19 Tests Should Be Free — But Who’s Paying?

Our fragmented healthcare system strikes again as a Congressional mandate on coverage is being ignored by many employers offering self-funded health plans. The CARES act clearly states that COVID-19 testing should be completely covered by health insurance, with no contribution by policy holders. But the majority of Americans are covered by larger, self-insured employers who are ignoring their responsibility by not paying for the test at all, by forcing their insured employees to pay co-pays and/or deductibles, or by not covering the cost of the doctor visit where the test is conducted.   —The HEAL Team
